TIM ALLEN ANSWERS THE BUZZ LIGHTYEAR QUESTION YOU'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW

Tim Allen answered a question that has long eluded fans: what the heck does Buzz Lightyear’s hair look like under that purple Snoopy cap?

In a press junket for Toy Story 4, an audience member asked what kind of haircut Buzz Lightyear has. “He has alopecia is the problem. He has pattern baldness a little. That balaclava that he wears. It’s for fireproofing,” Allen said, jokingly. "No, actually he’s got a beautiful head of hair underneath there. It’s rather curly. And he’s got a man bun. Under all that."

Of course (and Buzz knows this well): he’s just a toy, so under that Snoopy cap is really just more plastic. Still, some fans have wondered exactly what kind of hair he’s got going on under that helmet, and now you can imagine beautiful, flowing locks of hair he keeps in a bun and hidden to focus on saving the galaxy.

    Toy Story’s Legacy

Allen answered more questions about his role as the iconic space ranger, including if he anticipated if Toy Story would still be going on a quarter of a century after the original hit theaters in 1995, saying "It’s similar to when my life began with Home Improvement. I never thought about the future. I just thought about, can I get through this? Can I finish this? Because I had no idea what the result of that would be. And the same with Toy Story.

"I think Buzz and Woody were on a pencil eraser at a McDonalds or something. As weird as that sounds, we’ve hit a high mark when you become an icon. I never thought of that. It never occurred to me and I’ll say it again. There is a theme park out here. A theme park. I love theme parks. There’s a theme park. And a really, really good one and a really spectacular one that’s about this movie we started 25 years ago. I can’t describe except I’m honored and humbled to be part of this thing."

    Training for Toy Story

Discussing his preparation for the role, Allen said "I was trained. I went to film school... I did radio a lot. I was trained by some of the best voice over talents and I was the voice of Chevrolet for a while, Kodak, what was the other one, Kraft foods. I do voiceovers... And some of the better voiceover people said you’ve got to live those words.

"Doing voiceovers is all about the director. And they bring it out. 'If you try it this way…’ boy, they do honor the process. When these guys let you just go and then find who Buzz is... I’ll go 'Buzz wouldn’t say that.' I’m telling the people that created this character and I get kind of huffy. I go, 'No. Buzz doesn’t get that excited and he won’t say that.’"
