FORGET 2019, THE GAMES OF 2020 LOOK AMAZING

With E3 2019 behind us, we have a much clearer picture of what the rest of 2019 has in store. While not quite as concrete, we also know several major games that are coming in 2020 - from Ori and the Will of the Wisps to Halo Infinite, the future is bright indeed.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps – February 11, 2020 (PC, Xbox One)

Ori and the Will of the Wisps, the sequel to 2015’s much beloved Ori and the Blind Forest, is officially coming to PC and Xbox One on February 11, 2020. The gameplay trailer released during E3 2019 gave us a deeper look at its gameplay, combat styles and bosses.

Gods & Monsters – February 25, 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Stadia)

Gods & Monsters is a beautiful open-world adventure narrated by Homer, the famed storyteller from Ancient Greece. While at first glance it looks very similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it’s not just a clone of Nintendo’s masterpiece.

Final Fantasy VII Remake – March 3, 2020 (PS4)

Final Fantasy VII Remake has eluded fans for over a decade: the infamous 2005 PS3 tech demo of Final Fantasy VII was just a technical showcase, but fans have been eager for the real thing ever since. Luckily, they won’t have to wait long - the first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to PS4 on March 3, 2020. While this appears to only take place in an expanded Midgar, subsequent parts of the remake will be released later.

Watch Dogs: Legion – March 6, 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Though it unfortunately leaked before E3 2019, the hype for Watch Dogs: Legion continues to grow after going hands-on with a 78-year-old hacker named Helen Dashwood who’s all about kicking ass and taking names.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – March 20, 2020 (Switch)

Fans were disappointed when Nintendo Announced Animal Crossing: New Horizons had slipped from 2019 to March 20, 2020, but that will just give the developers more time to create the lovely island getaway we’ve always wanted.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 – March 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is a long-awaited follow-up to a well-loved 2004 video game based on an acclaimed tabletop RPG, and it’s coming March 2020.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot - Early 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the artist formerly known as Dragon Ball Project Z, is a cel-shaded action game following everybody’s favorite Sayian in a classic adventure, coming early 2020.

Rainbow Six Quarantine – Early 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Rainbow Six Quarantine was given an “early 2020” release window during Ubisoft’s E3 2019 press conference, and is a 3-player, tactical co-op experience where players combat a deadly parasite.

Trials of Mana – Early 2020 (PC, PS4, Switch)

Trials of Mana was announced alongside the recently released Collection of Mana during Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference. It’s a full, 3D remake of the 1995 Japan-only Seiken Detsetsu 3 for Super Famicom.

Cyberpunk 2077 – April 16, 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Cyberpunk 2077 is CD Projekt Red’s follow-up to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and it couldn’t be more different. This futuristic, first-person, dystopian shooter/RPG blends action, humor, gore and Keanu Reeves for something that already feels particularly special.

Marvel’s Avengers – May 15, 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Stadia)

Marvel’s Avengers from Crystal Dynamics was revealed during Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference, and features fan-favorites Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor and Black Widow in a story that breaks the group apart, and has them reassemble in style.

Dying Light 2 – Q2, 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

This much-delayed follow-up to the first-person zombie original was given a Second Quarter 2020 release window during Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference, and you’ll probably only see 50% of Dying Light 2’s content in your first play-through.

Minecraft: Dungeons – Spring, 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch)

Minecraft: Dungeons is a Minecraft-themed isometric dungeon crawler coming in Spring 2020 that can be played alone or with a group of friends.

Outriders – Summer, 2020 (PC, PS4 and Xbox One)

Outriders is a futuristic co-op shooter from Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly, capable of 1-3 player, drop-in-drop-out gameplay.

Halo Infinite – Holiday 2020 (Xbox One, Project Scarlett)

Halo Infinite is the only game on this list confirmed as a next-gen title, as it is set to launch in Holiday 2020 alongside Microsoft’s Project Scarlett - but it’s also coming to the Xbox One family of consoles. This next chapter in Master Chief’s sprawling story brings him back to one of the titular Halo rings, albeit a broken (yet beautiful) one.

Carrion – 2020 (PC, “Consoles”)

Carrion is a violent, 2D "reverse horror game” that puts players in control of a bloody alien blob, and anyone who gets in its way is bound to end up in a right mess.

Destroy All Humans! (Remake) – 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

This remake of the cult PS2 and Xbox classic Destroy All Humans! will see players assume the role of an alien hellbent on blasting and abducting the human race - get ready to levitate some cows.

Empire of Sin – 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch)

Empire of Sin is a Prohibition-era mob strategy game where players can build their own criminal empire as one of 14 different crime bosses.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch)

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will include levels from every numbered entry in the Star Wars franchise, including the latest additions to the movie series: Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Except, you know: in brick form.

No More Heroes 3 – 2020 (Switch)

No More Heroes 3 will once again star Travis Touchdown, following his over-the-top antics with his beam sword as he takes down mech-skeletons and doles out countless meta video game jokes.

Persona 5 Royal – 2020 Worldwide [October 31, 2019 Japan] (PS4)

Persona 5 Royal will feature additions to the critically-acclaimed base game, though its extra semester of gameplay goes “beyond the expectations of those who have experienced the volume of Persona 4 Golden.”

Pokemon Sleep – 2020 (iOS, Android)

Pokemon Sleep is a new gaming app for smart phones that "tracks a user's time sleeping and brings a gameplay experience unlike any other,” allowing players to "wake up with Pokemon every morning.” Yes, it’s silly, but it’s still coming in 2020.

Psychonauts 2 – 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Psychonauts 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2005 cult classic where players controlled Raz, a boy with psychic powers at a camp for similarly talented kids. Though its developer Double Fine Productions was acquired by Microsoft, it’s still set to be released on PS4 as well as PC and Xbox One.

Tales of Arise – 2020 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Tales of Arise is the latest game in the long-running Tales RPG series, the most recent of which was Tales of Beseria, which came to North America in 2017.

Way to the Woods - 2020 (PC, Xbox One)

Way to the Woods is a smaller game by Anthony Tan that was given a spotlight during Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference. In it, players control two cel-shaded deer adventuring through an overgrown, abandoned world.
